Description
British India One Rupee of King George VI. Obverse: crowned bust of George VI facing left, legend GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR. Reverse: denomination within a wreath of roses, date 1942 below. From 1940, wartime silver shortages reduced the fineness of the Rupee from .917 to .500 while the gross weight (11.66 g) was kept the same; the 1942 date falls within this reduced-fineness period.
